no error correcting/factory rejects?

i am not sure if this is the right place to ask so you mods can move to the correct place.

i was wondering does the tivo boxes do error correction on the writes or just blindly write?

or does tivo use factory rejects? hard drives that does not meet oem'ers (dell, hp, etc) specs for bad sector count so they sell them to tivo.

the problem i noticed is back in march when i recorded a bunch of shows on the syfy channel at random times on a couple of shows there was corrupted signal macroblocking and complete drops.

then it stopped for a while and now that i deleted those shows it started again.

i was wondering to maybe keep costs down tivo does not use the latest in cpu technology rather they use lat years or a couple years old cpu technology (like celeron is to pentium) they removed error correction so the box writes the stream without doing some kind of crc checksum ( remember in the old days on mac where the finder would write to the floppy and verify the copy the same here blindly writing to save a few cpu cycles.

or would getting a ssd help any because ssd's are faster and no moving parts scratch off magnetic media should they contact the disks?
