Space for transfer the same after HD Upgrade

$

I have a Tivo Roamio Basic that I upgraded the HD on as soon as I opened the box. I came from a Tivo Elite previously and was used to the size for many recordings. Before I sold my Tivo Elite I was able to pull the shows to my desktop machine and hold them untill I had the new Roamio setup.
After my Roamio was setup and running with the new HD, I was able to test pulling a show from my machine with no issues. I have been pulling shows here and there with no issues. Until now...The fall line-up is in full swing, and I am using more than 33% of the 3TB HD that I upgraded the Tivo with. I am realizing that that Tivo stops transfers just before the file finishes. I was able to additionally try pytivo and see that it sees 0.00GB free.
My question was the following, is there a setting somewhere in order to tell the Roamio that it has more than the original 500GB it came with in order to not make transfers error out. Was there something that I missed in the original setup of the larger HD.
I was using the included Tivo Server download tool in the menus to pull the shows before trying to use pytivo which finally showed me that the Tivo "thinks" it is out of space.
Thanks in advance to any info!

Reboot takes 30 min, video stuttering

I have a Roamio Plus and recently the unit has started to spontaneously reboot. The rebooting process takes on average 30 min. When the TiVo video finally plays, it stutters. Once in the main menu, trying to watch TV usually doesn't work, and playing recorded shows is iffy at best, usually with a lot of stuttering.

I'm guessing this is my HD failing.

I talked to TiVo tech support and they want to RMA the unit. I am pretty computer savvy, so I have no problem fixing the system if it's just the Hd. Just wondering if I'm better off to do that (replace HD myself) or let them send me a whole new (refurb) unit?

Do HD's put into Roamios still need to be prepped?

Also, is there any way to save my existing recordings?

Thanks!

What program to use to restore backup

I have a TCD652160 HD that I am installing a new hard drive in. The new drive is a Western Digital 1 TB Sata. I have several backups from the original HD that were created by WinMFS 4-5 years ago.
I have hooked up the new HD to my Windows 7 computer, but WinMFS 9 does not see any drives.
Do I need to use a Win XP instead of Win 7 computer?
The program seems to run OK, just does not show any drives when I press Select Drive.
Any ideas?

TiVo HD XL question - upgraded to 2 TB internal, but want 1 TB external to work too..

$

Hi, Sorry if this is a repeat question, while I searched here, I got old or conflicting information and was not able to glean the correct answer.

I've got a TiVo HD XL, it was set up with 1tb internal and 1tb external. The internal died, so I got a new 2tb drive and put it internal. I used MFSLive and an image for that drive. I got that all up and running and put the 1tb external on. It asked me to pair, I said yes, but it never did.

Searching here I found the following, but don't know if it's true:
- 2.2tb is the max
- internal drive cannot be larger than external

But also saw people saying:
- they have 4tb storage
- use MFSLive/WinMFS to marry B to A

I tried both MFSLive and WinMFS, MFSLive didn't seem to do anything even though the command came back successful, WinMFS did seem to work, but kept causing reboot loops at "Almost There...". When I disconnected the external drive, TiVo recognized that and asked to divorce it. So this seemed to almost work...

Searching more, I see JMFS Live, but didn't see the exact situation I have and I'm leery to try it without asking first.

Will JMFS Live do this? If not, any other options?

Thanks!
Ron

NEWS: WD renames "AV-GP" line of drives to "AV".

NEWS: WD renames "AV-GP" line of drives to "AV".

There are two WD Product SpecSheet PDFs now.

One PDF (old) is for "AV-GP", which only goes to 3TB.

The second (new) one is for "AV", which is the new name for the product refresh cycle. They dropped the "-GP". Includes 4TB model.
http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/librar...879-800015.pdf

I guess "AV" sounds sportier that "AV-GP". This is further proof that they are refreshing the line. I doubt it will bring anything good to the discussions here, likely more confusion, than anything.

From the new PDF:
WD AV (formally WD AV-GP) SATA hard drives store more
hi-def audio and video than ever before – up to 4 TB. They
are optimized with SilkStream™
technology to capture data
from up to 16 simultaneous HD video streams. With 24x7
operation, low temperature, and best-in-class reliability,
WD AV hard drives are ideal for DVR/PVR and IPTV
applications. 3-year limited warranty

Premiere GSOD Reboot Loop

I have a TiVo Premiere XL (TCD748000) with an original 1 TB (WD10EVVS) drive that I think is failing. The symptoms are: recordings freeze/pixelate, no guide information, cannot rewind live TV. I used ddrescue to recover the drive to a new 1TB drive (WD10EZEX). The ddrescue process completed successfully and indicated 35 errors. Unfortunately, when I loaded the new drive into the TiVo, I experienced the same issues as I saw with the old drive. I tried a KS 57, and now am in a perpetual GSOD reboot loop.

2 questions:
1. Does anyone have experience with this that can offer options to get me back to a functional TiVo?
2. Can someone provide a clean OS for the TCD748000 in the even that I have to go that route?

Thank you!

Any problems using non-WD (Toshiba) 2TB drive in upgrade of TCD652160?

Hi everyone,

Been a *long* time since I visited, good to see the community is still chugging along. I've had a stock TCD652160 that has been faithfully in service for my kids for years. I recently upgraded to a Roamio Pro for myself, and I'm replacing my kids' TiVo HD with a TiVo Mini.

I'm going to eBay the original TCD652160. I had a spare Toshiba 2TB drive sitting around, so I figured I'd see if I could maximize my profit and upgrade the TiVo HD using that drive. To my surprise, it worked flawlessly.

The last thing I want to do is to sell an upgraded TiVo on eBay that will have problems down the road. I let it run for awhile after the upgrade, and everything seemed okay, but I have to admit I haven't done a full burn-in.

Googling for the answer returns too much noise about the old Toshiba branded TiVo's, so I figured I'd ask the experts. Is using a Toshiba drive a generally accepted okay thing to do?

TIA,

Justin

Upgrade TiVo Roamio

I probably missed the answer to my question in one of the previous topic, went through several and did not see the answer.

I am considering getting a new basic Roamio and immediately upgrading the drive. I am going to be using OTA only and will have to redo my guided setup and season passes, so is the upgrade process as simple as putting a new 4TB drive in?

I have used MSF tools in the past on my series 3 and HD units but did not see where they supported Roamio units.

Thanks

Help needed - TCD748000 - odd failure

Hi all. I've got a strange problem (or maybe problems) with my Premiere XL.

Original drive died about 18 months ago, replaced with a weaknees 2gb drive.

Earlier this month, started to get random reboots & freezes, increasing in frequency. Kickstarts were unsuccessful in resolving and overnight and automatic disk tests all passed.

When I received the upgraded drive, I took a DRVBARS backup of it before installing. Dug that up and restored to a new 2GB drive....and we have liftoff! Back to guided setup.

...but can't seem to make it through the software update. Keeps freezing on "loading info" - somewhere between 1% and 57%.

A few other observations:

1. Each of the drives passes mfr diagnostics and smart tests
2. The process seems to inch closer to completion each time...with great advances being made when the cable card and TA are not connected

Questions for the experts:

1. My experience tells me that the drive is most prone to failure. I would have thought replacing the drive would have cured all problems. How likely is it that a bad TA or CableCard is contributing to this?

2. How likely is it that my image is bad? Should I try again with a fresh TCD748000 image?

3. Am I just SOL?

Thanks in advance,
Msilano

Troubles Replacing TiVo Drive In Series 3

$

I have a Series 3 (the one with the OLED display) and the drive is going out so I bought a new one. Put both the old and new drives in the PC an booted up my MFSLive 1.4 CD. I then either the following command:
backup -qTao -/dev/sda | restore -s 128 -zpi -/dev/sdb
then all I get is the listing of options for both the backup and restore commands.

What gives!?!?

I've used MFSLive1.4 with success before.

Both drives are mounted, the old TiVo drive as sda and the new blank drive as sdb (I watched them mount and can do an ls command on sda with success).

The drives are of the same brand and size so it's a simple copy, no expanding or anything like that.

Series 3 mfsrestore - target not large enough for entire backup

$

I have a 1TB drive in my TiVo Series3 (TCD648250B). After doing a clear and delete everything, which hung originally where the only option was to unplug the TiVo. ONce I replugged it in, the Clear and Delete completed in a couple of hours. Now, it is stuck in the endless reboot loop (Welcome...A few more minutes...reboot).

I have an original image (from a stock tivo), but when I try to do mfsrestore I get the error that "target not large enough for entire backup".

Obviously the drive is big enough and I had upgraded it in the past. Could I possibly need to reformat the drive to remove the corrupt upgraded stuff already on the disk? Any other suggestions?

Tivo HD hard drive replacement

$

Hello,

I have a Tivo HD and recently started getting a lot of pixelation on all of my channels and determined that the HD is starting to go.

I had upgraded my stock HD with a 500GB WD blue drive years ago with a date code of 2009 so I was lucky and got 5+ years out of it.

Can anyone confirm that a WD Green WD10EZRX 1TB will work? I was going to stick another Blue in but the Green seems to offer more power savings.

Searching through the threads there seems to be a lot of talk about different HD's but I could not find anything specific for the HD.

Thanks

Need help - upgraded Series3 and now it locks up periodically

Recently I (finally) upgraded my old Series 3 TiVo by replacing the stock drive with a 1Tb drive (WD AV-GP WD10EURS), and using WinMFS to copy everything from the original drive to it, and it seemed like it worked - except for one thing: now the TiVo (which has always been very reliable) is now locking up occasionally (about once every week or two).

I can fix the problem by simply unplugging the TiVo and plugging it back in, and it's good for awhile.

Any ideas what I can do? Could it be a bad hard drive (that I'd need to look into doing a return/exchange)? Or just bad sectors that I could do something so that TiVo doesn't attempt to read/write those sectors?

Thanks!
