Looking for Premiere XL Image w/ THX Optimizer Video

$

I'm looking to reimage my Premiere XL to get the THX optimizer video back. It was deleted years ago with a Clear and Delete. And the people at
TiVo were/are clueless on how to get it back. It should be download automatically.

If there is another way I can get this back without having to reimage the drive, please let me know.

Thanks.

I upgraded the hard drive in my 500GB Bolt to a 1TB drive. After doing this the usage percentage in My Shows is erratic. I had 135 HD shows recorded and it was still reading 0%. I deleted the shows and permenantly deleted them and the usage jumped to 3%. I than deleted one that I wanted to save and it jumped down to 1%. Someone please help. I am concerned that it will effect the suggestion recordings should they become to many.

Wireless will not connect after 4TB Bolt upgrade.

Before the upgrade I was using the wireless connection on the Tivo Bolt and it worked fine. Yesterday I upgraded my Tivo Bolt to a 4TB Samsung Momentus ST4000LM016 internal drive using the Ross Walker method for drives greater than 3TB.
I used the MFS Reformatter 1.0.0.2 and then went through the guided setup on the Tivo and then did a clear and delete. Everything works as expected with the increased storage with the exception of the wireless. It can see my access points but I cannot connect to any of them. LAN connection works fine, but wireless gets a "Cannot connect to wireless (N06)" error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Upgraded Premier Drive On Last Leg, No Original Drive

Hey Guys,
So my upgraded premier unit is on its last leg, the upgraded HDD is spinning loud but still working. I have the unit unplugged as I don't want it to die just yet. My question is, can I use this dying drive to make a new drive? I can't put my hands on the original drive that came stock with the unit. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, if anyone has a solid recommendation of a 3tb size drive (if thats still the max we can use) please let me know!

Much appreciated!

Premier hard drive type for upgrade?

I see some reference to the TiVo being a little finicky about which drives are used for upgrades, but I have not found a list of drives that seem to work better than others.

Is there a list of drive types to use?

If not, does anyone have a recommendation on an inexpensive, quality drive for a Premier unit (TCD746320)?

My plan is to watch for a deal to pop up to get something in the 3 TB range over the next few weeks, but I'd like to avoid buying the wrong drive.

New Drive For Bolt

I was one of the people who put a 4TB internal drive in my Bolt. It works well in general, but I do have to restart it every couple of weeks. Now I am looking at modifying the Bolt case and using a 3.5 inch drive in an external enclosure. Two questions:

1. Is there a way to copy all the data off my current drive to the new one?
2. Would a WD Blue, Purple, or Green drive work in this scenario? I need to be economical, but I'm not willing to go smaller than 4TB.

The hard drive powers up but will stop spining after awhile (around a minute), the Welcome starting up screen is as far has It goes.

TCD748000 Premiere Backup Failed - MFSTools 3.2

I'm trying to create a backup of my Premiere hard drive, but I'm getting an error message saying file or directory does not exist.

My source drive is /dev/sdb

I'm using the command;
mfstool backup -o /mnt/dos/TCD748000.bak /dev/sdb

Backup starts and I can see the status update as the backup progresses. All seems OK until the file size counter hits 2047. That's when I get the error saying backup failed and the file or directory doesn't exist. When I check my backup folder, I see that the file (TCD748000.bak) was created, but it's only a partial backup.

I also tried this using an old Series 3 drive as the source. Same result.
Anyone have suggestions?
Assistance is humbly requested.

Where is Windows winmfs.exe in 2016? Steps for newbie to replace Series3 HD?

OK – I cry uncle – after following so many dead links and reading so many outdated conflicting approaches from 2007 onward, I have confused myself to point of not knowing where to start.

Can someone point me to the current 2016 instructions for how to replace a failing internal Tivo Series3 drive?

What I have:
  • a second-hand Series3 Tivo with a failing 1TB disk that I did not install
  • a new 2TB WD AV-GP 3.5 Inch, SATA II, 64 MB Cache WD20EURS disk from ___amazon.com/WD-AV-GP-Video-Hard-Drive/dp/B0042AG9V8___
  • a Windows-7 laptop (which I think is more recommended to use for this over my Mac laptop) to which I will attach two USB-to-SATA drive enclosures, one for the new WD20EURS, and the second for the old Tivo drive

What I think I need to do:
  1. Remove all the deleted shows from Tivo disk
    • Can this really be done? Conflicting reports say this is worthless since disk xfer is byte-for-byte copy
  2. Run the WD diags on new disk from PC
  3. Find a Windows version of WinMFS
    • I found ___sourceforge.net/projects/mfstools___ - but this looks to be UNIX only
    • Where do I find the latest winmfs.exe for windows?
  4. Follow the steps in __rosswalker.co.uk/tivo_upgrade/#winmfs___
    • Except skip the wdidle3 step since my WD20EURS is newer than 2013
  5. msinfo (but I do not see how this works from Windows or winmfs.exe?)
  6. mfsadd (but I do not see how this works from Windows or winmfs.exe?)
  7. Or is it MfsSuperSize?

Is this all spelled out somewhere for 2016 steps with working links? Doesn’t seem to exist.

Or is this easier done from the Mac? If yes, I’m assuming there won’t be a DMG, but are there suggested cmd-lines with switches to use from OSX xterm? Can I really run the WD diags from the Mac?

The instructions in the forum sticky at TiVo Community > Main TiVo Forums > TiVo Series3 HDTV DVRs >Drive Expansion and Drive Upgrade FAQ are based on the missing Windows winmfs.exe.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

hard drive review: Toshiba MD04ACA400 4TB

I recently upgraded my Premiere XL4 to 4TB and thought I'd write a short drive review.

What I bought is a Toshiba MD04ACA400 (4TB, 7200 RPM, 128MB cache, 6Gbps SATA). It's an OEM drive sold in bulk at MicroCenter for USD$110.
I upgraded using the MFStools v3.2 live CD, and it worked perfectly; no issues or hiccups at all. It's an advanced format drive, so I wasn't sure if that was an issue, but it is fine.

It is noisier than AV drives, but not awful in normal use. If you're sitting right in front of your TiVo, you will hear it however. The drive does not support AAM.

The drive supports Advanced Power Management and came already set at level 128, which is the lowest power level without spin-down.

One odd thing is that this drive has an activity LED. I didn't think anyone made drives with these anymore, but I forgot to check for it, and now I can see a flickering amber light out the bottom of my TiVo. If it really starts to annoy me, I'll go back in and remove the LED though.

Overall, I'd give the drive 4 stars.

PROS: Fast; inexpensive
CONS: Noisy; has activity LED.

Move contents of Roamio drive directly onto larger drive?

Hi - I read that you can upgrade a Roamio by just dropping in a larger drive. I also read that you can move your programs off the old drive to a PC and then after the uprgrade move them back to the new one. But I was wondering if it was easy/possible to upgrade in place. Pull the 500GB drive, move it's contents to a 2TB drive, and then put the 2TB drive into the unit. Or is this not straightforward?

Thanks!

Recommened Drives for external Bolt upgrade

I showed my sister the thread that member bpunc posted ( http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=536782 ) using a external enclosure, and she would like me to preform this mod on her Bolt.
She does not want to go over 3Tb because of the possibility of unknown issues going with a larger HD.

My question is after reading hundreds of posts related to HD upgrades I thought the consensus was that the Western Digital Red WD30EFRX or the Green WD30EURX were the better choices, and don't even spit on a purple lol.
I was also looking at reviews and it seemed that the Red units had many more issues doa, and failure than the Green AV units, I guess I'm asking is there a gold standard when it comes to a replacement drive ?

Thanks in advance to any advice :), here is a link to the drives that I was looking at.

Upgraded hard drive --> Tech support refused (possible new policy?)

So, I've had upgraded drives in my S1, s2, DTV, DTV-HD150 (?), and Tivo HD. Until yesterday, that has never been an issue with Tivo customer support.

However, as described in another thread, I just got my first Roamio, which I upgraded with 6TB drive.

However, I am having having transfer issues between the new Roamio and my older S3s, and between the Roamio and a new mini. Basically, they can see each other, but refuse to transfer (or in the case of the mini, pair). I've done all of the "standard" troubleshooting (reboot, forced call, MAK check, network check, etc.).

So in troubleshooting, I called Tivo. After a few minutes of the usual basic Tivo 101 troubleshooting, he went offline. When he returned, the rep flat out told me what I have "altered" my Tivo, so there was nothing else to be done.

So, while rolling my eyes, I asked him if he would work with me if I restored the original drive. He told me unconditionally no, that because once the warranty was voided (), it was no longer eligible for any support.

I realize CSRs are like playing roulette -- my concern is if he actively put something like that in the notes -- or worse when he went offline if a manager did. Or worse, if we are at the beginning of a new era with Tivo, where they start crippling features if they see non-stock devices.

Upgrade to my current premier w adding additional one?

I have a premier that I want to keep but since it doesn't have any streaming ability over the Internet I thought I could get a new roamio or ?? To not only be able to watch shows between units in different rooms but online. So looking for the best option to achieve that goal.

Bolt 1 -> 4TB good for 2 weeks, now TOAST

First off, thanks to the countless forum contributors past and present.

Documents abound and a statement that the drive I bought was not the slow potentially incompatible type.

ST4000LM016 F/W: 0003 P/N: 1N2170-567 WU

Formatted it properly with msfr, put it in no problem for two weeks. Last night she rebooted once, tonight she keeps rebooting (Gray noise, please wait, please wait.....repeat). Put the stock 1 TB back in and it works fine.

Was there a new SW download lately, anyone else having issues with Bolts >3 TB

I originally bought a 3.5 WD green AV (2TB), but I couldn't figure out how to tie the two drives together. Can someone point me to an outline on how to take my stock 1TB and mary it with an external ESATA 2TB Green AV.

TIA,
George

Successful clone of "tired" TiVo drive to new drive. Now what?

Hey community,

I have a TiVo Premiere Elite (Ordered on launch day of the Elite) which was working fine but I had reason to believe that, after 5.5 trouble-free years, the drive was starting to get "tired" (Audio drop-outs and video breakups that were becoming more and more common).

Yesterday, using information from this forum and other bits and pieces from the internet, I successfully cloned the stock (WD20EURS) drive onto a new drive (WD20EURX).

I used ddrescue so I didn't have to do any other TiVo magic or tinkering.

Now that I have this WD20EURS drive out of the TiVo and no other plans for it -- what should I do with it before I scrap it?

1-Can I / should I extract an "image" off of it for future safekeeping, lest the hard drive I just installed fails without warning?

2-If I am imaging the drive, can I just image the "OS" -- I don't necessarily need to keep the ~1 Tb worth of shows on that drive with an image that I'm just keeping around for disaster recovery.

3-But speaking of those shows -- can I pull any shows off of the drive? I have used kmttg before but I imagine the "drive direct connected" method is a whole lot quicker!

There is a ton of info out there already but I'm having a tough time knowing what info specifically addresses my questions above. Please feel free to point me towards existing info.

Thanks!!

Reuse 4TB Seagate Drive From Bolt Experiment Gone Bad

$

I bought one of the 4TB Seagate drives and tried using it in my Bolt, but it got really flaky. I now need a new drive for my laptop so I thought I'd reuse that drive. For some reason in Windows Disk Manager sees it as two separate drives, not partitions, drives. How do I convince the system that it is actually one drive?

Help With Tivo Bolt Hard Drive Upgrade

$

OK, figured it out but if you want to see how dumb I am you can read the thread.

Hi, I'm a newbie at Tivo so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I bought a 500gb Tivo bolt and wanted to upgrade the HD. I heard about complications and issues using a 4TB HD so I opted for at 2TB (Seagate ST20000LM003). I opened up the case, removed the original 500gb HD and put in the Seagate. I plugged in the Bolt, the Tivo opening screen came up and then nothing. My TV said there was no signal and it just sat there. I left it for half an hour and nothing happened.

A bit worried, I unplugged the Seagate and put back the original HD. The Tivo booted up and then it said "just a few more minutes." But then, it also went black with a no signal message.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong or what happened. Guides on the internet seem to make it very simple with plug and play. Concerned I tried to download MFS reformatter I thought this would work since it worked for 4TB drives. When I choose to reformat Tivo drive i get the error "This drive would have 1 media regions, which isn't supported at this time."

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Series 3 fails to recognize WD20EZRZ - stuck with all lights on

$

I'm running into nothing but trouble upgrading my series 3 (premiere xl4 upgraded to 6TB without issue using WD60EZRZ).

My current issue is that the tivo fails to startup, all the lights stay on (indicating that the hard drive isn't recognized?). I can use the original drive or the dual 1TB WD10EURX setup without a problem, so it's not the power supply.

I've tried copying the original and the dual (not saving recordings), but I don't think the tivo is getting far enough to even boot from the drive. I've tried two different WD20EZRZ drives.

The drive does appear to spin up, but I can't eliminate the possibility that the drive doesn't have PUIS set. I've attempted to use the UBCD in vmware fusion to run 'HDAT2 /W', but I can't seem to get it to recognize the drive in the USB dock (tried loading all drivers, SCSI, USB, and none). I'm not sure if the issue is with fusion or the guest OS. The MFS VM has no issues with accessing the docked drives.

I had previously been successful upgrading from the original drive to a WD20EURX only to run into issues updating the channel lineup and eventually finding out the drive had a ton of bad sectors so I decided to try the newer blue line replacement (same one I used in the premiere just 2TB vs 6TB).

Is there any other way to determine the PUIS status of the drive on a Macbook or any way to configure HDAT2 running in fusion to recognize the USB controller properly?

Any other ideas as to what could be the problem?
